Time On Track, Ep 11: Round 11 – Silverstone

Time On Track returns for round 11 of the 2023 Formula 1 season, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. We love this track for the often entertaining racing it lends itself to, and this weekend was no exception. The biggest surprise of this race was the pace shown by the McLaren cars driven by Lando Norris and the rookie Oscar Piastri, who finished in P2 and P4 respectively, and would were it not for an untimely safety car would have likely secured two spots on the podium. We saw another early qualifying exit from Sergio Perez, and a horrid slate of bad luck for McLaren’s main rival, Alpine. Ricardo and Blake discuss it all in episode 11 below.

The race itself was only part of the big news this week, however. In a somewhat surprising move, Alpha Tauri dismissed their rookie driver Nyck de Veries, and announced that his replacement will be none other than Red Bull reserve driver, and fan favorite Daniel Riccardo. The move will undoubtedly put pressure on teammate Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Perez for a future seat the class leading RB car.

We’re heading into the summer break with the next race coming the final weekend of July in Hungary, which will kick off the second half of the season. The Mercedes team took P2 and P3 in Hungary last year and will look to put their new upgrades to similar use and hold off a newly surging McLaren team and a regrouping Ferrari and Aston Martin teams. Join us for the next episode the first week of August.
